Accidental Death due to Natural Disaster / Natural Event 

If the Covered Person dies due to a Natural Disaster / Natural Event, the benefit payable is as follows:

Notes:

  1. The Free Disaster Shield is offered by AIA Bhd. and AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd. (“AIA”). 
  2. AIA+ app user/non-AIA+ app user status of the Covered Person at point of claims will be used to determine the benefit amount payable.
  3. Each Covered Person is limited to signing up for Free Disaster Shield only ONCE during the coverage period.
  4. This free coverage is subject to a total claims limit of RM1 million (combined limit for AIA Bhd., AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd., and AIA General Berhad), whichever is earlier. This combined limit is aggregated between all the free covers. 
  5. Please refer to Appendix 1 for the definitions of the capitalised terms.

You can sign up for Free Disaster Shield from 1 September 2025 until 30 November 2025.

To be eligible for this coverage, one needs to be:

  1. A Malaysian citizen residing in Malaysia; and
  2. Between the age of 15 days and 15 years old (for children) OR 16 years old and 70 years old (for adults).  

Note: Only parents or the legal guardians can sign up for this Free Disaster Shield for children under their care.

You can reach out to any AIA Life Planner to sign up through the dedicated microsite. Provide the relevant information below via the dedicated microsite during the registration period:

*Note: Only parents or the legal guardians are allowed to sign up for this Free Disaster Shield for children under their care. For those with more than 3 children under their care, please register using a fresh registration form.

The coverage period of Free Disaster Shield is effective upon successful registration until 28 February 2026, or upon reaching a total claims limit of RM1 million (combined limit for AIA Bhd., AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd., and AIA General Berhad), whichever is earlier. The combined limit is aggregated between all the free covers. AIA reserves the right to withdraw this Free Disaster Shield at any time with prior notice. 

No. Free Disaster Shield is only eligible for Malaysians who are residing in Malaysia.

No, there are no exclusions to the Free Disaster Shield.

A natural disaster is a storm, earthquake, flood or other similar event that is due to natural causes. A natural event refers to lightning strikes or fallen tree. 

For their full definitions, you may refer to Appendix 1. 

Yes, coverage is provided both within and outside of Malaysia. However, for a natural disaster claim, the area of damage must officially be declared a disaster area by a state or federal government if the event occurs in Malaysia, or by a corresponding authority if the event occurs outside of Malaysia.

If your application is successful, you will receive a welcome email from AIA to your registered email address in your application within 14 working days from the registration date. 

You will then be required to download the AIA+ mobile app via Google Play, App Store or Huawei App Gallery and register your AIA+ account. Once completed, you may view your benefits via the AIA+ app. You are highly encouraged to download the AIA+ mobile app to enjoy higher coverage for this Free Disaster Shield.

Do not worry. This is where you can view details of your Free Disaster Shield in the AIA+ App.

Follow the guide below and you will be able to see that your coverage is shown (point 6) below as:

List of documents required when submitting a claim:

  1. A copy of the first page of bank statement or account passbook indicating Claimant/Claim Payee Bank Account Number, Account Holder Name, Bank Name for E-payment purpose
  2. Certified true copy of death certificate
  3. A copy of Police Report 
  4. A copy of Post-Mortem report, if any 
  5. Proof of relationship: marriage certificate or birth certificate

Notes:

  1. Claims must be submitted within thirty (60) days from the date of Accident.
  2. We may request additional information or supporting documents when required; your early response will expedite the processing of your claim.

You may have entered the incorrect information during the claims application. Please resubmit the claim application with the correct information and contact your respective Life Planner for assistance.

All ages referred to under this free coverage shall be the age of Covered Person’s last birthday.

“Accident” means a sudden, unintentional, unexpected, unusual, and specific event that occurs at an identifiable time and place which shall, independently of any other cause, be the sole cause of bodily Injury.

“Covered Person” shall mean the person(s) who must meet the following eligibility and has/have successfully enrolled to this Free Disaster Shield:

  •  Age last birthday at the time of registration is between fifteen (15) days old and seventy (70) years old; and
  • a Malaysian citizen residing in Malaysia.

“Natural Disaster” shall means a storm (wind, rain, snow, sleet, hail, lightning, dust or sand), earthquake, flood, volcanic eruption, wildfire or other similar event that is due to natural causes and results in such severe and widespread damage that the area of damage is officially declared a disaster area by a state or federal government if the event occurs in Malaysia, or by a corresponding authority if the event occurs outside of Malaysia. 

“Natural Event” shall refer exclusively to one of the following occurrences: 

(a)     Lightning Strikes: A naturally occurring electrical discharge originating from the atmosphere that directly impacts the ground or any object situated on it; or 

(b)    Fallen Tree: The complete or partial collapse of a tree or substantial tree limb due to natural causes, including but not limited to disease, decay, soil erosion, root instability, or extreme weather conditions such as wind or rain. This term specifically applies to trees that fall without human intervention or influence, and where the cause of the fall is determined to be a natural process rather than human activity. 

Whenever the context requires, masculine form shall apply to feminine and singular term shall include the plural.
