{{label}}1. What is the Free Overseas Travel Shield?
The Free Overseas Travel Shield provides cash reimbursement of up to RM 3,000 for Quarantine while travelling overseas due to Covid-19 or Overseas Travel Cancellation for Malaysians residing in Malaysia. The Free Overseas Travel Shield is offered until 31 December 2022 or upon reaching a total claims limit of RM1 million (for AIA Bhd., AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd., and AIA General Bhd. combined), whichever is earlier.

Quarantine Allowance Due To Covid-19 While Overseas Benefit |
If the Insured/Person Covered has been diagnosed as a person with laboratory confirmation of infection with the Covid-19 whilst on his/her Overseas Travel and is required to observe mandatory Quarantine by any government or relevant health authorities of the respective country, we will pay the following to the Insured/Person Covered for each twenty-four (24) complete hours of Quarantine, up to a maximum of ten (10) days in respect of one (1) Quarantine.
Consecutive Quarantine resulting from Covid-19 shall be considered as one (1) Quarantine. |
Overseas Travel Cancellation Benefit |
Upon the cancellation of the Overseas Travel necessitated by the following and occurring within thirty (30) days before the date of commencement of the Overseas Travel as a result of:

2. Who is eligible for the Free Overseas Travel Shield?
To be eligible for this free coverage, one needs to:
b. Be between the age of 15 days and 15 years for children OR 16 years and 70 years for adults; AND
c. be a Malaysian citizen residing in Malaysia.
*Note: Only parents or the legal guardians are allowed to sign up for this offer for children under their care. For those with more than 3 children under their care, please register using a fresh form.
3. How can I sign up for the Free Overseas Travel Shield?
You can reach out to any AIA Life Planner to sign up through the dedicated microsite. If you do not know any AIA Life Planner, please email us at MY.Customer@aia.com and provide your Name, Contact No. and Current Location (eg. Kepong, Kuala Lumpur) and include “Free Overseas Travel Shield” in the email subject.
4. What is the coverage period of this Free Overseas Travel Shield?
The coverage period of this Free Overseas Travel Shield is offered until 31 December 2022 or upon reaching a total claims limit of RM1 million (for AIA Bhd., AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd., and AIA General Bhd. combined), whichever is earlier. AIA reserves the right to withdraw this Free Overseas Travel Shield at any time without notice.
5. I am a Malaysian and currently working/residing outside Malaysia. Am I eligible for the Free Overseas Travel Shield?
No. The coverage is only eligible for Malaysians residing in Malaysia only.
6. I was diagnosed with COVID-19 before but has fully recovered. Am I eligible for the Free Overseas Travel Shield?
Yes. You are eligible to apply for this Free Overseas Travel Shield.
7. Do I need to be vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine to be eligible for this Free Overseas Travel Shield?
Yes. Insured/Person Covered aged 18 years old and above needs to be Fully Vaccinated to be eligible for Free Overseas Travel Shield. However, Insured/Person Covered aged 17 years old and below are not subject to this requirement.
8. Does this Free Overseas Travel Shield cover Quarantine due to Covid-19 diagnosis during domestic travels / domestic travel cancellations?
No. Free Overseas Travel Shield covers Quarantine due to Covid-19/ travel cancellation for Overseas Travel only.

10. How will I know if I have been successfully enrolled for the Free Overseas Travel Shield and how do I check on the applicable benefits?
Your Free Overseas Travel Shield will commence on the date you registered on the microsite. If your application is successful, you will receive a welcome email within 14 working days from the registration date.
You will then be required to download the AIA+ mobile app via Google Play, App Store or Huawei App Gallery and register your AIA+ account. Once completed, you may view your benefits via the AIA+ App.
11. I downloaded the AIA+ app and noticed that AIA BHD. is stated as my Company Name and that I am an employee of AIA BHD. I don’t understand why the Free Overseas Travel Shield is under Employee Benefit.
Below is a guide on how to view your Free Overseas Travel Shield in the AIA+ App. You can see that your coverage is stated in point 6 in the image below as Overseas Travel Cancellation Benefit of up to RM3,000 (for AIA+ app user) or RM1,000 (for non-AIA+ app user) and Quarantine Allowance Due to Covid-19 While Overseas of RM300/day up to 10 days (for AIA+ app user) or RM100/day up to 10 days (for non-AIA+ app user).
12. I have received the welcome e-mail confirming that I have been enrolled into the Free Overseas Travel Shield but why am I not able to register for the AIA+ account?
Please ensure that you have provided the correct information via the dedicated microsite, including full name as per NRIC, NRIC Number, phone number and e-mail address. If you are unsure, please resubmit the application with the correct information and contact your respective AIA Life Planner or e-mail MY.Customer@aia.com for assistance.
13. How do I make a claim under the Free Overseas Travel Shield?

14. Why is my claim application rejected?
One of the reasons is you may have provided incorrect information during the claims application. Please resubmit the claim application with the correct information and contact your respective Life Planner or email MY.Customer@aia.com for assistance.
Appendix 1- Definitions:
All ages referred to under this free coverage shall be the age of Insured/Person Covered's last birthday.
“Accidental Bodily Injury” shall mean a bodily injury occurring during the Coverage Period which is the direct result of accidental, external, violent and visible means and which solely and independently of any other cause results in a claim for death or disablement. This is extended to bodily injury as a result of exposure to the elements of natural perils. This does not include any sickness, disease, bacterial or viral infection, (unless this is the direct result of an Accidental Bodily Injury) naturally occurring condition or degenerative process or the result of any gradually operating cause.
“Coverage Period” is the time period the Insured/Person Covered is given the coverage.
“Covid-19” shall mean 2019 Novel Coronavirus or subsequent iteration by World Health Organization (WHO).
"Fully Vaccinated" refers to the Insured/Person Covered’s vaccination status on the day of registration for this free coverage which shall follow the definition of Vaccination status issued by the Ministry of Health Malaysia or World Health Organization, provided the last dose of Covid-19 vaccine was administered at least fourteen (14) days before the Trip.
“Hospital” shall mean only an institution licensed as a Hospital and operates pursuant to law for the care and treatment of sick and injured persons as registered bed patients, with facilities for diagnosis and major surgery, which is under the supervision of one (1) or more Registered Medical Practitioners and which has 24-hour a day professional nursing service. “Hospital” does not include any institution or that portion of any institution which is operated as a convalescent or nursing home, rest home, home for the aged, a place for alcoholics or drug addicts or for any similar purpose.
“Immediate Family Member” shall mean the Insured/Person Covered’s legal spouse, children (natural or adopted), sibling, sibling-in-law, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, legal guardian, or stepparents.
“Infectious Disease” shall mean easily transmitted disease that is diagnosed by a Registered Medical Practitioners, using internationally accepted medical diagnostic criterion, with acceptable clinical, radiological, histological and laboratory evidence.
“Insured” and “Person Covered” shall mean the person(s) covered whom must meet the following eligibility and has/have successfully applied for this free coverage:
"Overseas Travel" shall apply to Trip to any Travel Destination outside of Malaysia.
“Quarantine” shall mean compulsory detention in isolation to stop the spread of an Infectious Disease.
“Registered Medical Practitioner” shall mean any person qualified by degree in western medicine who has legally registered with the government of the geographical area of his/her practice to render medical or surgical services, but other than the Insured/Person Covered, an insurance/a takaful agent, authorized insurance/takaful intermediary, business partner(s), employer/employee of the Insured/Person Covered, or a member of the Insured/Person Covered's Immediate Family Member or related in similar fashion to the Insured/Person Covered's spouse.
“Serious Accidental Bodily Injury” or “Serious Sickness” whenever applied to the Insured/Person Covered, is one which is dangerous to life and requires treatment by a Registered Medical Practitioner and which results in the Insured/Person Covered being certified by that Registered Medical Practitioner as unfit to travel or continue with his/her original Trip. When applied to the Immediate Family Member, it shall mean Accidental Bodily Injury or Sickness certified as being dangerous to life by a Registered Medical Practitioner and which results in the Insured/Person Covered’s discontinuation or cancellation of his/her original Trip.
"Sickness" shall mean any noticeable change in the physical health of the Insured/Person Covered occurring during the Trip, which requires the Insured/Person Covered to seek the care of a Registered Medical Practitioner acting within the scope of his/her license to treat the Sickness for which the claim is made provided the nature of the illness is not excluded from this free coverage.
“Travelling Companion” shall mean a person who has reservation or confirmation of travel to accompany Insured/Person Covered on the same Trip.
“Travel Destination” shall mean Insured/Person Covered’s arrival Destination Country(ies) and/or Area of Coverage.

“Trip” shall mean the return Trip commencing from the time the Insured/Person Covered leaves his/her normal place of residence or place of regular employment in Malaysia or starts from the Coverage Period, whichever is later, until the time he/she returns, and ceases on whichever of the following occurs first:
The duration of each Trip shall not exceed ninety (90) consecutive days from the commencement date of the Trip.
“Vaccination” shall mean a Covid-19 vaccine intended to provide acquired immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 (SARS-CoV-2) that is causing Covid-19, including the first dose, subsequent doses and booster doses. The vaccine must be officially approved, endorsed or authorised by Ministry of Health (MOH) of Malaysia and prescribed by a Register Medical Practitioner in any Hospital in Malaysia. For avoidance of doubt, Vaccination performed in Malaysia at locations other than Hospital as allowed by MOH, with the prescription of a Register Medical Practitioner, are also accepted.
Whenever the context requires, masculine form shall apply to feminine and singular term shall include the plural.
