Apart from playing an integral role in the development of the local insurance industry, AIA Malaysia places equal importance on community support and assistance as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. In line with this, the AIA Have-A-Heart Fund was launched in 1998 with the aim of offering financial assistance to deserving children suffering from congenital heart disease in need of homograft surgery.
The Fund, which was subsequently granted a tax-exempt status by the Inland Revenue Board, started-off with an initial corporate grant of RM500,000 from the company while the agency force successfully raised an additional RM150,000 during the official launching ceremony. Post-launch, the agency force pledged to donate RM1 from their commission for every life insurance policy sold thereafter.
Aside from this contribution, a variety of fund raising activities were held since the inception of the Fund and among the most notable of these include the charity movie premiere screening of "Return to Me" which raked in RM150,000 in terms of contribution and the Treasure Hunt & Golf Charity Competition through which RM100,000 was successfully raised.
To date, the Fund has successfully sponsored the open-heart surgeries of 186 children, at a cost of over RM2.9 million and continues to sponsor such surgeries for deserving children.
