Want to have better sleep, better immunity and lower stress levels? Go for a walk in the forest.
Studies have shown that spending time walking or being mindful in a forest imparts positive effects on a person’s mental and physical wellbeing. Specifically, the act of “forest bathing” or “nature bathing” (believed to originate from Japan, called “shirin-yoku”) activates the nervous system to conserve energy, slows down the heart rate and puts the body in a restful state.1 Locally, Malays have been known to do this for centuries through “Mandi Embun”, where they take a leisurely pre-dawn walk in the forest to immerse themselves in the atmosphere.2

What better way for you to reconnect with nature and its surroundings than with a holiday getaway? Put aside the lure of theme parks and city staycations, and explore the road less travelled. On top of feeling rejuvenated from being close to nature, you can also engage in a variety of nature-based activities like trekking, hiking, fishing or kayaking – so you can stay fit and active at the same time!
Here is a selection of nature-based holiday destinations in Asia, ranging from glamping to plain camping to consider for your next travels:

Jeeva Beloam takes the whole concept of “unplugged” very seriously. All of its lodges in Lombok are inspired by the traditional Sasak fishing camp, and do not have WiFi or TV. Jeeva, meaning “soul” in Sasak language, invites guests to return to the rhythm of life by disconnecting from distractions and immersing themselves in the beauty of the forest reserve and its secluded cove.
Elephant Hills, Thailand

Their unique nature adventure package comes with an ethical way to get up and close to elephants and watch them roam in a sanctuary. The tented camps are no less impressive with all the amenities you would expect from a hotel, all in the heart of Khao Sok National Park.
