    Pumping 24/7 and keeping us alive with every beat, the heart is seated in the middle of the chest, behind the breastbone and between the lungs, protected by the rib cage.

    • It pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood every day

    The heart is a muscular blood pumping organ that consists of 4 chambers:

    • 2 atria, the upper portion of the heart that receives
      oxygen-free blood and,
    • 2 ventricles, the lower portion, that pumps
      oxygen-enriched blood into all organs of the body,
      reaching even the smallest cells.

    The heart performs 3 main functions:

    • Ensures that blood is distributed throughout the body.
    • Keeps the body freshly supplied with oxygen,
      nutrients and hormones.
    • Removes the body's waste products, including carbon dioxide.

    Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in Malaysia. Heart disease is more than just heart attacks and blocked arteries. Here are some common heart conditions to be aware of.

    • Arrhythmia or abnormal heart rhythms occurs
      when the electrical signals within your heart are
      interrupted or disturbed, making your heart beat
      too quickly, too slowly and/or in an irregular way.

      and mental stress.

    • When one or more of the heart valves do
      not work properly, affecting the flow of blood.
    • Symptoms include: shortness of breath,
      swollen ankles, fatigue, dizziness and chest pain.
