So, you’re finding it tricky to exercise while your children are playing around the house. You may be determined to hit the ground running and get those reps out, but kids just want to have fun. Why not get them working out too?
After all, working out together with your kids can be fun — as demonstrated by AIA Ambassadors, Anton Del Rosario and Bec Judd in the video below.
Here are a few methods that you can try to get your little ones exercising with you!
Your best workout partner is the one you have at home. Although children prefer activities where the objective is just to have fun, you can find ways to make exercises entertaining for them.
“Your best workout partner is the one you have at home.”
Start simple by letting them count your reps. Gradually increase the complexity, like having them hold your legs while you high five them at each sit up.
For older children, it’s a good idea to let them start training alongside you and take part in your routines.
To make your kids feel included, try making them a part of your workout routine.
Forget the dumbbells, try picking your kids up at home and carrying them over your shoulders while you do your squats and lunges. Alternatively, have them sit on your back while you’re doing planks.
After all, the more the merrier!
Not all exercise routines have to be dull and repetitive. You can spice up those workouts with some imagination!
Rather than regular push-ups, sit ups or school time exercise routines, make it more skill-related and get your kids to join in with frog jumps, playing catch, crab walks, bear crawls or just by simply jumping around.
“You can spice up those workouts with some imagination!”
The outdoors is also home to an abundance of space and a huge playing area for the children. Your kids can engage in games like tag or simply run around and strengthen their stamina.
With the presence of outdoor gyms, you can also make full use of the equipment while your children do what they do best – have fun.
There are also many direct approaches when it comes to exercising with your children.
The next time you find yourself browsing through fitness classes, consider picking one where your child can be involved like yoga, zumba, dancing or even indoor cycling.
Being in the same room with them, you’ll be able to offer encouragement and lend a hand in building their self-esteem.
When your child is physically fit, they tend to feel better overall and will stay healthier compared to others.
The earlier you get them into shape, the less likely they'll be vulnerable to illnesses; and will be able to live a healthier, longer and better life.
