A planned admmission refers to a scheduled inpatient hospital stay or daycare, based on recommendations from the patient's doctor for specialisted treatment.
When a hospital admission is recommended by the doctor, the hospital would usually enquire how would the patient finance the expenses.
Patients who have medical insurance would opt for a Guarantee Letter facility to pay for their medical expenses in a panel hospital.
Arrangements would be made by the hospital to obtain the patient's information, consent and have the doctor complete the Pre-Authorisation Form.
The form will be submitted to AIA for a pre-authorisation process and an Initial Guarantee Letter will be issued.
With this Initial Guarantee Letter, it will be a hassle-free journey for the patient on the day of admission.
Depending on when the hospital submits the Guarantee Letter request,
AIA will usually reply within the same day.
An Emergency Admission is when an unfortunate situation occurs and a patient is brought into the hospital due to an acute condition or accident and requires immediate medical attention or admission.
The Guarantee Letter facility would be available to facilitate the patient's hospital admission if the attending doctor completes the Pre-Authorisation Form and submits it in a timely manner.
There could be situations where the form is not yet signed; therefore, the hospital is unable to submit to AIA and request for a Guarantee Letter. In this instance, the hospital would then request for a higher deposit.
All private hospitals in Malaysia require patients to provide a financial guarantee before admission, therefore a deposit is needed.
For patients who are on self-pay, the deposit is usually 80% of the estimated hospitalisation cost.
For insured patients with Guarantee Letters, this deposit would range lower and be between RM300 to RM600, depending on the hospital's protocols.
AIA has pre-existing arrangements with AIA Platinum Hospitals where they would not ask for a deposit if the Initial Guarantee Letter has been approved during admission.
In Brief
Outpatient procedures can be minor surgeries performed by the doctor in the clinic or doing a scan or minor procedure in a procedure room.
Daycare procedures are surgeries or procedures done in a setting similar to an operation theatre with clinical team support.
Similarities
Both can be done without the need to be
hospitalised
overnight and patients can recover quickly within the
same
day.
The Guarantee Letter facility would be available for patients to undergo Daycare procedures, so they do not need to be hospitalised overnight.
Another common misconception is that patients need to be hospitalised in order to obtain a Guarantee Letter. If a procedure can be done in an Outpatient setting, Guarantee Letters would not be provided.
Keep an eye out on these details to ensure you have a smooth and easy experience!
