5 Healthy grocery shopping tips
1.Don’t shop when you are hungry
Grocery shopping when you’re hungry makes it harder to resist junk foods such as chocolates, chips and ice cream. This is because our body craves for high-calorie foods that provide more energy when we are hungry. Try going to the supermarket after your meals to avoid making poor food choices!
2.Make a shopping list
Do you catch yourself wandering around the supermarket? I’m sure most of us have experienced that. A shopping list is not only useful in cutting down the time that we spend at the supermarket, but it can also minimise impulse buying. This is especially useful if you're easily distracted by the aisles with processed foods. Make a point to stick to purchasing only the items included on your list.
3.Prioritise fresh produce
Once you set foot into the grocery store, head to the fruits and vegetable section and fill up most of your trolley spaces with fresh produces. Remember to choose a rainbow of colourful fruits and vegetable!
4.Shop the perimeter of the grocery store
The aisles along the walls of the supermarket are usually where fresh foods like fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood and dairy are located. Try to shop more from these areas and avoid the centre aisles where the junk foods are. This will reduce your exposure to these unhealthy foods. Out of sight, out of mind!
5.Bring your reusable bags when shopping
Bringing your reusable bags is a great way to reduce the carbon footprint of our shopping waste. Let’s do our part in protecting our environment!
To sum up
Healthy eating begins in the grocery stores. The next time you head to your grocery store, remember to bring along your shopping list and shop after your meals. Do your part for the environment by bringing along your reusable bags too!
