Abdul Shukur, an administrative assistant in a local university has always struggled to find the motivation he needed to get active.
“To me, working out requires planning. And that’s the hardest part when you’re not motivated. You don’t know where to start,” Shukur said.
In 2018 when Shukur signed up for a takaful plan with AIA, he decided to include AIA Vitality without much thought. But his decision to join the AIA Vitality programme was indeed a good move. One glance at the programme structure and its amazing rewards, Shukur was convinced.
“I was drawn to the structured approach of AIA Vitality. From the online assessments to its point-earning system and rewards, I knew it was doable!” he added.
However, when the first MCO was implemented in March 2020, Shukur decided to cancel his membership.
He found himself with ample time on his hands and was constantly idle. That eventually led him to snack a lot and unfortunately his unhealthy lifestyle caused him to gain 12kg in just 3 months!
That was the tipping point for Shukur. He knew that he had to take control over his health once again!
After 6 months of suspending his membership, Shukur rejoined AIA Vitality in September 2020. 2 months into the programme, he was proud to share with the world that he was leaner, trimmer and much healthier at 66kgs.
His love for running has made Shukur an avid runner and he now makes sure that he keeps his eating habits in check.
“I used to eat a lot of fast food and would eat out most of the time. However since rejoining the programme, I eat a lot healthier and have even changed my diet of consuming white rice to brown rice. In fact, I also pay close attention to my portion sizes too.”
Today, Shukur has completely revamped his lifestyle. He also has a group of friends who keep him accountable in staying healthy while he keeps a strict regime in ensuring that his meals and nutrition are all well managed.
While it may seem like it was easy getting back on track, Shukur shared that it was in fact very difficult to alter his lifestyle without the right motivation. With AIA Vitality, he felt his mission had a greater purpose that kept him well on track till today.
“In life, we like rewards and benefits. It was difficult to change my lifestyle with zero enforcement because I was not motivated at all. Other than “staying healthy” I couldn’t find any other reason to change my daily habits. And that’s why the AIA Vitality Weekly Challenges are important. I always look forward to the Weekly Challenge Rewards.”
Shukur is today a huge supporter of the programme and would recommend it to anyone. He is a living proof that AIA Vitality can help anyone make a lifestyle change.
