Commercial Package

The Commercial Package plan provides coverage for four (4) sections as below

Section I – Fire Insurance
Section II – Burglary and Robbery Insurance
Section III – Accidental Damage to Fixed Glass and Signboards
Section IV – Public Liability Insurance

The Commercial Package policy consists of four (4) sections as below

Section I – Fire Insurance
This policy provides protection against loss of or damage to property insured caused by Fire, Lightning including the following extended perils

  • Riot, Strike & Malicious Damage.
  • Bursting or overflowing of water tanks, apparatus and pipes. (Excess – the first RM1,000.00 of each and every loss. Where sum insured is less than RM50,000, the excess may be reduced to 1% of sum insured but subject to a minimum of RM100.00).
  • Explosion

For extended peril coverage, kindly note that there are specific exclusions, limitations and excess clauses under the respective extended perils.

Section II – Burglary & Robbery Insurance

1) Loss of or damage to Property Insured under Section I
Protection against loss of stock-in-trade, furniture, fixture and equipment within the insured premises by Robbery or Burglary or any such attempt. The policy also covers damage to building, renovation and property insured under Section I

2) Loss of Money and Securities.
  • Protection against loss of money and securities by robbery or any such attempt thereat within the premises including damage to the premises.
  • Protection against loss of money and securities from within the vault or locked safe or locked drawers by burglary or attempt thereat including damage to the premises
  • Protection against loss of money and securities by robbery outside the premises while being conveyed by a messenger from bank to Insured’s premises and vice versa only.

Section III – Accidental Damage to Fixed Glass and Signboards
Provides coverage to fixed glass and signboards against accidental damage.

Section IV – Public Liability Insurance
Provides protection against legal liability for accidental bodily injury or illness to third party or accidental loss of or damage to third party property arising out of the operation of your business including but not limited to claim for death or illness due or alleged to be due to food or drink supplied by you at your premises,

Duration of cover is for one year. You need to renew your insurance policy annually.

1. How much premium do I have to pay?
It is compulsory for insured to take up Section I to Section IV coverage. This package is ONLY applicable to the following occupations and the rating for Section I – Fire Insurance is as stated below:-

  • Handicrafts and gifts. (excluding watch shop)
Books, magazines, stationery and paper products.

** In the event of a loss, the maximum amount claimable is limited to the sum insured as per the items insured under Section I of the policy schedule.

For example:-
An ABC boutique situated at a shop lot of C1A construction would like to insured its stocks for RM100,000 for Section I – Fire and select the Standard Plan for Section II – IV.

The fire rate is 0.254% of total sum insured and the premium for Standard Plan is RM570.00.

The total premium that you have to pay is calculated as follows:-

Subject to certain underwriting requirements, the premium payable may be higher or lower than that mentioned above subject to minimum premium for Section I – Fire insurance is RM75.00 as per Revised Fire Tariff effective July 1, 2000.

2. What are the some of the key terms and conditions that I should be aware of?

  • If you have more than one insurance policy covering the same property, we will share the loss proportionately with the other insurers.
  • If the value at risk of the property insured in the event of a loss is of greater value than the sum insured stated in the policy, you will be considered as absorbing the difference between the value at risk and the sum insured and shall bear a rateable proportion of the loss accordingly.
  • Importance of disclosure – you must disclose all material (important) facts such as your business and your business particulars in the proposal form correctly and faithfully.
  • You must ensure that your property is insured at the appropriate amount taking into account the renovations made to your property.
  • You shall notify us any other insurance covering the same property insured by us under this policy otherwise all benefits shall be forfeited.
  • You must have an insurable interest on the property to be insured, i.e. right, title or interest in a property / item and that a loss or damage to the property / item would result in a financial loss to you.
  • Depending on the nature of insurance arrangement, the Company may impose warranties (i.e. restrictions), special clauses or endorsement on your insurance cover.
  • You shall keep records of all the insured property, money and securities in such manner that we can accurately determine the amount of loss.
  • This is a contract of indemnity, i.e. to compensate you, as best as possible, to the position you have enjoyed immediately before the loss. The amount of compensation paid to you upon claim would depend on an indemnity basis subject to a deduction for wear and tear and depreciation.
  • Our liability shall not exceed the total sum Insured and sum insured of each item stated in the proposal form.
  • We may elect to reinstate or replace the property damaged or destroyed instead of paying the amount of the loss or damage.
Underwriting Requirements:
  • The premises must be in building of Class 1A construction. (i.e. building constructed with fully brick walls and roofed with tiles or any incombustible materials)
  • The total combined insurable values for property insured under Section I must not exceed RM1,000,000
  • The minimum security to Section II – All entrances including windows must be protected with iron grilles and padlocks.

3. What are the major exclusions under this policy?

Section I – Fire Insurance
  • Loss by theft during or after the occurrence of a fire.
  • Loss or damage to property occasioned by its own fermentation, natural heating or spontaneous combustion or by its undergoing any heating or drying process.
  • Loss or damage occasioned by
    • The burning of property by order of any public authority.>/li>
    • Subterranean Fire (underground fire)
  • Loss or damage from nuclear weapons material.
  • Loss or damage from ionizing radiations or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or nuclear waste.
  • Earthquake, volcanic eruption or other convulsion of nature.
  • Typhoon, hurricane, tornado, cyclone or other atmospheric disturbance.
  • War, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations or civil war.
  • Mutiny, riot military or popular rising, insurrection, rebellion, revolution, military or usurped power, martial law or state of siege.
  • Liability for pollution or contamination.
  • Any act of terrorism.
  • Property which is insured by any marine policy.
  • Goods held in trust or on commission, bullion or unset precious stones, any curiosity of work of art, manuscripts, plans, drawings or designs, patterns, models or moulds, securities, obligations or documents of any kind, stamps, coins or paper money, cheques, books of account or other business books or computer systems records, coal, explosives, explosion, burning of forests, bush, lalang, prairie, pampas or jungle and the clearing of lands by fire unless expressly included.

Section II – Burglary & Robbery Insurance

  • Loss due to any fraudulent, dishonest or criminal act of yours or with a partner.
  • Loss due to war, whether or not declared, civil war, strike, riot, civil commotion, insurrection, rebellion or revolution.
  • Loss due to nuclear reaction, nuclear radiation and radioactive contamination.
  • Loss of manuscript, books of account or records.
  • Loss of furs or articles containing fur within a showcase or show window by a person who has broken the glass from outside the premises. (applicable for loss or damage to physical property and merchandise only).
  • Loss occurring while there is any change in the condition of the risk such as when the door or window of the premises is damaged by typhoon or during a fire in the premises.
  • Damage by vandalism or malicious mischief.
  • Loss due to use of any key or duplicate key (applicable for loss of money and securities cover only)
  • Any act of terrorism

Section III – Accidental damage to Fixed Glass and Signboards.

  • War, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations, mutiny, strike, riot, civil commotion, civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, conspiracy, military or usurped power, martial law, or state of siege or requisition or destruction by order of any Government or Public Authority.
  • Damage arising during removal or alterations to premises.
  • Interruption or delay or loss of business during the time between the occurrence of a breakage and the replacement of the glass.
  • Any act of terrorism

Section IV – Public Liability Insurance

  • Death or bodily injury of your employee in the course of his employment.
  • Damage to property owned or occupied by or rented to you or under your control.
  • Ownership maintenance operation, use, loading or unloading of (a) aircraft, (b) watercraft, (c) locomotives or (d) motor vehicle or any mechanically-propelled vehicles.
  • Liability assumed by you under any contract or agreement.
  • Death, injury or destruction due to war, civil war, insurrection, rebellion, revolution, riot, strikes, civil commotion or military or usurped power.
  • Obligations which you may be liable under Workmen’s Compensation Law.
  • Claims or liability arising from nuclear fission, nuclear weapons material, nuclear fusion or radioactive contamination.
  • Loss of or damage to property, land or building caused by vibration or removal or weakening of support or to injury to or illness of any person occasioned by or resulting from such loss or damage.
  • Liability arising out of goods sold, supplied or delivered by or on behalf of you.
  • Liability arising out of the rendering or failure to render professional services or advice by or on behalf of you.
  • Liability arising out of goods or products manufactured, distributed, supplied or delivered by you.
  • Any occurrences, claims made, suits filed or judgement rendered in the United States of America or Canada.
  • Any act of terrorism.

4. Can I cancel my policy?
You may cancel your policy at any time by giving written notice to us. Upon cancellation, you are entitled to a refund of premium calculated based on the customary short period rate for the time the policy has been in force, subject to the minimum premium to be retained by us.

5. How do I make a claim?
You need to immediately notify us, giving the relevant details, such as policy number, date of incident, circumstances of loss and estimated loss.

Within 15 days from the incident, you must complete the claim form which you can obtain from our agent or by calling our AIA Care Line at 1300 88 1899 or by visiting any of our branches. You will find a list of the branches by visiting You will need to provide us with proof of your claim (such as police/fire brigade report, stock record, purchase invoices, photographs or repair quotation) at your own expense.

6. What do I need to do if there are changes to my contact/personal details?
It is important that you inform us of any changes in your contact details to ensure that all correspondences reach you in a timely manner.
